Canada and Haryana to collaborate on food and energy security

Canadian Premier Scott Moe has led a six-member delegation to visit Haryana to discuss the potential for cooperation in the fields of food and energy security. During their meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the delegation, which also included former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, expressed interest in increasing cooperation between Haryana and Saskatchewan, particularly in areas such as uranium, energy products, agricultural fertilizers, and aviation technology. Premier Moe noted that Saskatchewan already has trade offices established in countries including India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, China, and Japan.

Chief Minister Khattar provided an overview of Haryana’s favorable geographical conditions, noting that the state is a leading agrarian state in India and ranks first in per capita income and GST collection. He also shared that more than 400 Fortune companies from around the world are doing business in Gurugram, while Haryana ranks second in India after Bengaluru in IT and software. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the delegation’s visit would be a positive experience and that cooperation could also be increased in logistics warehousing.

The potential for increased cooperation between Saskatchewan and Haryana could have significant benefits for both regions. Saskatchewan is a leading producer of uranium and agricultural products in Canada, while Haryana’s position as a leading agrarian state in India makes it an attractive partner for trade in agricultural products. Additionally, cooperation in energy products and aviation technology could drive economic growth in both regions. With Saskatchewan already having established trade offices in several countries, this visit presents an opportunity to explore new avenues for cooperation and deepen ties between the two regions.
